We have said that we want real people to be our political leaders, and not professional politicians. People that will be straightforward, honest, even if it is brutally honesty. but to tell us the truth, even if it is an ugly truth. We don’t mean this at all. We want real politicians, and not real people.
The real politician, is a fellow that can package a message, and economize the truth enough where it is neither clear or legitimate. They do so smoothly enough that people hear completely different messages and find enough salve in the tone and intonation, that they still manage to walk away satisfied.
The fact that politicians understand that a palatable half truth has more value towards their own advancement than an ugly whole truth; then being truly transparent becomes clearly outside of their interests. So why even try to be clear and honest?
I think the matter is very much like a cross examination in the court room. Packaging the language so that your side wins, and ricocheting off the truth like a rock on a pond surface. Maybe that is why most politicians are lawyers. Maybe if we are satisfied with this we both deserve what we get, and we ought to require our politicians to be lawyers. Clearly we expect our politicians to act, well- politically- and not properly.
